Brooklyn Made Certification

As anyone who’s lived in New York City can tell you, New Yorkers have a great deal of pride. Just like the “I Love New York” t-shirts made a real splash from the 1970′s onward, there is a new logo in town that’s got even more hyper-local finesse.

Brooklyn Made” is the name of the program. It’s bronze, silvern and gold logo is one that is now carried by 41 different products and growing each day. The selection criterion for the Brooklyn Made products were products which were developed, made and produced in Brooklyn. Moreover there were metrics for products made in Brooklyn by people who live in the borough. Brooklyn Made is the boroughs way of asserting it’s identity and really marking it’s territory.

Brooklyn Made also does have an economic component attached to it of course. But this has less to do with making money and more about putting money back into the borough by fans of the borough. In recent years so many rip-off companies have come around and claimed to be “authentic” Brooklyn but they have really not been that at all.

Brooklyn Made is overseen by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and they have all been throughly vetted. The fact that they have gotten this seal doesn’t mean that these companies can simply outsource their production while keeping the logo. These different products and companies will now be the shining beacon which all other local groups in the borough can aspire towards.

We all want to know where our things are made; where our goods and services are coming from. The Brooklyn Made campaign hopes to do that for New York City’s most populous borough.
